Situated at the height of 6500 ft. / 2000mts, Pelling is a leading tourism destination in Sikkim only about 9 kilometers from Gyalshing the District headquarter which is rightly connected by roads with all the nearest towns, train station, bus stations and Airport. This little but beautiful hill station has its historical and religious importance of once having an old monastery established in here about 300 years ago named as Pema choeling founded by the then a Buddhist master Terton Pemalingpa. Later on the monastery slowly turned in to ruins as there were no care taker after the founder left it circumstantially. However, the name of the monastery is still used as the name of the place in corrupt pronunciation : Pelling. Spiritually guarded by the two prominent monasteries Sangachoeling and Pemayangtse this little hamlet has a great advantage of having closest view Mt. Khangchendzonga and famous snow peaks : Kabur, Rathong, Kokthang, Talung, Pandim and Narsing.
